SERVICE 04 · DATA RECOVERY

We’ve recovered dental data
from every kind of failure,
including the ones that felt
hopeless.

We evaluate failed drives and initiate recovery within hours, restoring practice and patient data without the wait or the cost of mail-in recovery labs.

Call us before you try anything else. First steps matter.

Features

A recovery
scope built
around dental
data
specifically.

Dental data recovery isn’t the same as recovering a Word document. Patient records, imaging archives, and practice management databases each have their own structure, file formats, and dependencies. We know them.

  • Emergency triage call within the hour. We determine recovery scope before quoting anything
  • Failed hard drive and SSD recovery from workstations and servers (mechanical failure, firmware corruption, bad sectors)
  • Ransomware recovery: isolate, assess, restore from clean backup or pursue decryption where feasible
  • Accidental deletion and formatting recovery: patient files, imaging archives, and database records
  • Practice management database recovery: Eaglesoft, Open Dental, Curve, and others
  • DICOM and proprietary imaging archive recovery (Dexis, Carestream, Sirona, Planmeca raw data)
  • Vendor-migration rescue: botched software migrations that left data in an unusable state
  • Documented chain of custody and recovery log (important for any HIPAA breach notification assessment)
Good Fit For

When recovery is
the call

Practices in active data loss: call us first, before trying anything else

Offices that have discovered their backup was failing silently and now need to recover from source hardware

Practices that survived a ransomware event and need to assess what was encrypted, what's clean, and what's recoverable

Honest Limits

When recovery
has tough odds

Data that has been overwritten multiple times after deletion (overwriting significantly reduces recoverability)

Situations where cost-of-recovery exceeds value of data. We'll tell you honestly when this is the case

Practices expecting same-hour miracle turnarounds regardless of failure type. Typical recoveries take 1–5 business days depending on severity

We don't promise miracles. We give you an honest assessment before any recovery work begins, and we tell you when the odds aren't good.

What We’ve Recovered

Real scenarios, real
outcomes. Not
theoretical success
rates.

Every recovery situation is different. These are representative examples of what we’ve handled for dental practices, including the ones where we couldn’t get everything back, and why.

Failed server drive mid-morning

8-op general practice, primary server, no RAID

Full patient database and imaging archive recovered in 28 hours. Practice ran on paper charts for one day.

Ransomware encryption event

Multi-location DSO, Eaglesoft database encrypted across 3 locations

Clean backup restored to all locations within 72 hours. Isolated 14-day-old shadow copy used to fill backup gap. Some scheduling data manually re-entered.

Accidental database deletion before migration

Transitioning from Eaglesoft to Open Dental, staff deleted live database instead of test copy

Production Eaglesoft database recovered from shadow copy. Migration completed successfully with zero patient data loss.

Imaging server drive failure

Oral surgery practice, 6TB Dexis archive on aging NAS

Mechanical failure with partial sector corruption. Approximately 94% of image archive recovered. Remaining 6% was pre-treatment images from 2016–2018 with lower clinical priority.

Botched vendor migration

Converting from Carestream to Planmeca, migration tool crashed partway through

Original Carestream data intact on source drive. Recovered and re-exported in correct format. Migration restarted cleanly.

ACTIVE DATA LOSS?

Call us now. First steps matter.

The actions you take in the first hour after a failure significantly affect what's recoverable. Call before you try anything. We'll triage over the phone at no charge.
